Occupy SVU?

Occupy Wall Street protesters weren’t too happy when they stumbled upon Lower Manhattan’s Foley Square and saw production crews from the NBC show Law & Order: SVU setting up a fake encampment.

About 100 Occupy Wall Street demonstrators stormed the set of the Law & Order OWS-themed episode.

Law & Order has always taken real-life events and flipped them into fiction. According to Han Shan, a member of the OWS press team:

“Basically, obviously, ‘Law & Order’ was using this as a backdrop for some salacious story. People did it in the spirit of absurdity and fun, and we like to come together in public space and share ideas and show our vision through our action and we’re doing that tonight with a good bit of jest and big fat smiles on our faces.”

The protesters arrived around midnight at Foley Square after word hit the internet that the NBC show was filming. Drew Hornbein, a protester that has been involved in the movement said, “This is not us. We are not part of corporate TV America.”

The crowd of OWS’ers soon dispersed after a police officer on a bullhorn announced that the film permit had been rescinded by the city, which drew cheers from the crowd.

A small victory for a big movement, OWS won’t be exploited!
