How sad! 14-year-old Cody Sherrell brought sadness to many when he died after falling into cardiac arrest during basketball practice.

The Oregonian reported that the boy’s dream was to be on his school’s basketball team. During a small break from the team’s first practice, Cody sat down and passed out.

The team’s coach, Tim Rice, immediately responded by administering CPR to the boy, parents joined in to help as well. Clark County Fire and Rescue’s battalion chief, Tim Dawdy said they all “reacted perfectly.” 

It took paramedics and doctors about an hour to get the Cody’s heart back to a normal beat using a defibrillator. Sadly, Cody died yesterday, a week after the incident.

Cody’s parents released a statement saying they were thankful for the public’s”overwhelming support and love. They also released a statement saying “Cody was a quiet boy… It’s brought us such joy to know he touched so many lives.”
