According to the New York Post:
Cops said the subway smashed into the 22-year-old when he was standing on the tracks between the Union Square and Third Avenue subway stops about 8:25 a.m. It was unclear why he was on the tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
About two hundred straphangers evacuated the train, walking along a platform in the tunnel before they exited at Third Avenue.
No criminality is initially suspected.
A Redditor who witness the grueling accident commented on an article about the accident and wrote, “I just saw a man get run over by the L train. It was… awful. Blood and intestines covering the platform. I don’t know if he jumped or fell. An EMT that came over said that this happens on average twice a week.”
Our condolences are with the family of the deceased at this time.
