Every year, right after the Academy Award nominations are announced, there are grumblings about movies, actors, or actresses who should have been nominated.

This year was no different.

DETAILS: Mary J. Blige Says The Academy Is “Mean” Over Oscars Snub

Well, actually, it kind of was.

Because this year there was another category that’s gotten some criticism: Best Original Song.

Even with all of the great music in movies that came out this year, the Academy decided to only nominate two songs for Oscars. One for “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets and “Real and Rio” from Rio.

This is absurd. So much so, that we decided to help the good folks at the Academy out, and suggest five more songs we feel deserve some recognition.

Mary J. Blige “Living Proof” (The Help)

Mary J. Blige was upset that the Oscars snubbed her, tweeting out her displeasure yesterday afternoon. And you know what? She was right to be upset. “Living Proof” was one of the most beautiful and powerful songs of the year.

Trent ReznorAtticus Ross & Karen O “Immigrant Song” (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the Best Original Song Oscar last year for their work on The Social Network. Well, the haunting, frenetic music they created for The Girl With Dragon Tattoo is better. So they should get some props this year as well.

College & Electric Youth “A Real Hero” (Drive)

Drive’s soundtrack was probably the best all around soundtrack of the year, containing cool, electric pop heavy songs. We’re picking College and Electric Youth’s “A Real Hero,” however, because of how it’s placed in the movie (sorry, no spoilers here).

The Chemical Brothers “The Devil is in the Details” (Hanna)

If mass murderers had theme music, this would be it. “The Devil is in the Details” is a catchy pop song that sounds like it belongs in the tape deck for Buffalo Bill.

Zooey Deschanel – “So Long” (Winnie The Pooh)

Wait, so they nominated that Muppets song, which we think is a good song, but not this cute, sweet Zooey Deschanel song? Craziness, is all we have to say.
