American actor and star in old TV show Growing PainsKirk Cameron has made it clear where he stands on homosexuality and gay marriage.

Kirk told CNN’s Piers Morgan Friday that homosexuality was “unnatural, detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

Since his interview with Morgan, many have expressed outrage. Gay activist group GLAAD has been the most outspoken with its Senior Director of Programs Herndon Graddick saying:

“In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character. Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans … with an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything.”

Cameron, who was once an atheist, is now an active Christian Evangelical.

The issue of same-sex marriage has become very popular in today’s politics.

Nearly 7 states in the United States have recognized same-sex marriage. The most recent state to do so is Maryland.
