Anyone who loves novels or movies may remember a little book and film called Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It was written by the latest House Real Big subject, Truman Capote. You may even know him because of the big screen adaptation of his life Capote starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Either way, back in 1965, he had an amazing spread out in the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island.

We call it amazing because it was about 6 acres long and Capote admits that he could barely see another house from the window of his.

At the time, Capote’s main residence was a sleek apartment in the U.N. Plaza in Manhattan, but his two-story Hampton’s beach house was definitely his getaway spot. Capote openly says that he got most of his work done in the house and that he would rather be there in the fall and winter rather than the summer so that he could be more productive.

You can check out the shots of Truman’s home from a 1965 issue of Architectural Digest in the gallery above.
