Chris Serino, one of the lead homicide investigators on duty the night of the shooting of Trayvon Martin, recommended that neighborhood watch Captain George Zimmerman, 28, be charged with manslaughter – but was later told not to press charges.

According to ABC News, on the night of the shooting, Serino was instructed to not press charges against Zimmerman because the state attorney’s office headed by Norman Wolfinger determined there wasn’t enough evidence to lead to a conviction.
Serino filed an affidavit on Feb. 26, the night that Trayvon was shot and killed, that stated he was unconvinced by Zimmerman’s version of events.
One complicating point of fact was that the first detective to interview Zimmerman about the shooting was a narcotics officer, rather than a homicide detective.
Zimmerman claimed he shot Trayvon in self defense on the night of February 26th.
The State Attorney’s office said only “no comment” when asked about the affidavit today.
Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, appeared before a House panel today in Washington D.C., which discussed racism and racial profiling.
Rallies continue around the country demanding that Zimmerman be arrested.
This latest news is evidence that the Sanford Police department handled this case badly from the beginning, only proving that George Zimmerman is guilty. #JusticeforTrayvon #Hoodiesup
