NEW VIDEO: Dawn Richard “Bombs”

From the breakup of girl group Danity Kane to her recent departure from Diddy Dirty Money, Dawn Richard has been on a difficult journey, but she’s finally found success – solo.

Dawn recently released her EP Armor On, which went number one on iTunes charts. Riding high from her success, Dawn stopped by GlobalGrind’s office to chit-chat about her EP’s success, her journey, and what’s next in her music career.

Being that Dawn is originally from New Orleans, GlobalGrind decided to get her perspective on racial profiling and the polarizing case of Trayvon Martin.

Check out our exclusive interview below and stay tuned for part deux of Dawn Richard’s exclusive interview!

GlobalGrind: You grew up in the south, what are your thoughts on the Travon Martin case?

Dawn Richard: I’m highly pissed off. We’ve got to do better as people, in general. I think this is one of those cases where you see — God always shows a glimpse of why we got to do better. I feel like this is going to lead us to the wrong direction as a nation and as a country and as people. We look bad right now and love has to start now.

There’s no excuse for what happened to him. No excuse. You cannot validate that. You cannot validate it. And until we can agree on that, it’s going to get worse. What if I had a son? Can he not walk in the street with a hoodie on? What if it’s cold?

Give me something else. You have to give me something else. You have to. That’s like if you’re born in an Islamic faith and you’re wearing a burqa in an airport and they just say, “Let me shoot you” because I felt threatened in the airport. You’re giving people the right to do that.

It’s just like you’re making up stories. If they let this go that would validate everyone to just kill and hurt each other and that’s unacceptable.
