Not to be outdone by Nike or Spike Lee, Congressman Michael Michaud made a special edition sneaker just for President Barack Obama.

As a gift supporting recent legislation to outfit US soldiers with American-made footwear, Michael Michaud commissioned a special pair of New Balance 990s specifically for the Chief of State.

For those of you who don’t know, the US New Balance factories are located right in Maine. It’s one of the few sneaker companies that don’t outsource all of their work to outside countries and they take pride in that.

The shoes come in the classic grey on grey New Balance colorway and are embellished with ‘President Obama’ stitching around the heel and “Handmade in the United States” printed on the heel tab.

We wish that they used a cooler version of New Balances for President Obama. Either way, it was a really nice gesture on behalf of Maine Congressman Michael Michaud.

You can take a look at a few close up shots of the special edition New Balance 990s made specifically for President Obama in the gallery above!
