This past Saturday was like any other day of the weekend for most, but for fans of R&B singer Mateo, it was definitely an exciting one!

The up and coming Interscope artist graced loyal fans with his presence at the Apollo Theater Music Café, coming out with plenty of enthusiasm as his personal stage drummer tapped into a soft drumroll.

Dressed in a denim button-up and Converse sneakers, matching with a multi-colored snapback, Mateo was ready to wow the crowd.

As he played on the keyboard himself, with his drummer following on a steady beat, Mateo got the audience to clap along as he sang his heart out.

Those hoping for a personal touch weren’t too disappointed, however, since Mateo took some time away from the stage to sing directly to a couple of lucky female fans sitting in the crowd.

Catering to loyal stans, and even gaining some brand new ones, the 26-year-old singer showed off his large range of vocals before singing some familiar tunes. But Mateo surprised everyone when he performed “Don’t Worry About Me,” off his newest project Suite 823.

Just when the audience thought they’d heard it all, Mateo signaled his drummer to play Calvin Harris’ smash hit “Feel So Close,” as he ran through the audience to get them on their feet. He then transitioned into a big crowd favorite, “Take Care” by Drake, performing the Rihanna verse with the female fans who helped him sing along.

While there were vocals that the audience seemed to know pretty well, Mateo shook things up by performing a track off his upcoming debut album called “Rosie,” which had the ladies downright misty-eyed. It seemed like every girl in there got their fill of Mateo, since he ended the night with his smash hit “Say It’s So” and got on one knee to sing to about five different girls.

The night of rhythm and blues flew by pretty quickly, but the audience left with plenty of smiles on their faces.

You could tell from the aura, this will not be the last time NYC will be seeing Mateo.
