Sex and politics just go together like milk and cookies or peanut butter and jelly; one needs the other like Kermet the Frog needs Miss Piggy.

STORY: Jill Kelley, The Other Woman In The David Petraeus Scandal Speaks

The newest political sex scandal involves former CIA Director David Petraeus and an extra-marital affair he had with biographer Paula Broadwell, which was discovered during the course of an FBI investigation.

Married for 38 years, Petraeus served as the 20th CIA director until his resignation.

What is about being the head of a government agency that leads to sexual scandals? There were always whispers that former FBI Director John Edgar Hoover was homosexual, as many speculated that he had an affair with Clyde Tolson, the Bureau’s associate director.

From Hoover to Petraeus, let’s take a look at some other sexual political scandals that made headlines!

    J. Edgar was rumored not only to be homosexual, but also a cross-dresser.

As for his friendship with associate director Clyde Tolson, Hoover said Tolson was his alter ego. They worked closely together; eating meals together, going to nightclubs and vacationing together.

Above is a picture of Hoover and Tolson sitting in beach lounge chairs in 1939.

Allen Dulles was the third director of the CIA from 1953-1961 and served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Dulles was 60 years old when he took over the CIA and his exploits were well known, but not publicized.

Dulles was rumored to have had a relationship with Clare Booth Luce, the wife of Henry R. Luce, the publisher of Time and Life magazines.

It was also rumored he bedded Queen Frederika of Greece in 1958 when she came to the United States on a tour with her son. She came to Washington, visited with President Eisenhower in the Oval Office and then visited Dulles at CIA headquarters.

Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, is no stranger to sex scandals. The Republican Presidential candidate has been married three times and left all his wives for younger women.

In fact, Gingrich cheated on his first wife when she had cancer with his eventual second wife. The Gingrich wife files go like this:

-In 1962, he married Jackie Battley when he was 19 years old and she was 26.

-1980, Gingrich left Battley after beginning an affair with Marianne Ginther.

-In 1993, while still married to Marianne, Gingrich started an affair with House of Representatives staffer Callista Bisek, who was 23 years younger than him.

Gingrich loves women, but above anything – he loves sex!

In the age of social media, why did Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain think that his past wouldn’t come back to haunt him?

Cain suspended his Presidential aspirations after numerous women came forward claiming that the Republican sexually harassed them while he was the head of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s.

The nail in the coffin came when a woman named Ginger White came forward, claiming to have had an affair with Cain for the last 13 years.

Cain denounced allegations of sexual harassment and adultery as “character assassination” during an event in Dayton, Ohio.

Cain has since denied all allegations of sexual harassment and adultery.

One of the most passionate congressmen to come out of New York, Anthony Weiner, was busted when he sent a picture of his junk via his public Twitter account to a woman who was following him on Twitter.

At first he denied the allegations, but then held a press conference during which he admitted he had “exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years.”

Since his scandal, Weiner became a father and has hinted that he wants to return to politics, possibly as a mayoral candidate.

The heart wants what the heart wants, and that’s the case with former Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford.

In 2009, Sanford went missing for about four days after he told his staff he would be hiking on the Appalachian Trail. As it turned out, he was having an affair in Argentina with a divorced mother of two.

Upon the discovery of the affair, Sanford told the Associated Press that he had met his soulmate.

Sanford met Chapur at a dance in Uruguay in 2001 and admitted there was a more intimate relationship with her starting in 2008.

In August 2012, Sanford became engaged to his former mistress, Maria Belen Chapur.

The Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky sex scandal rocked the late ’90s and eventually led to Clinton’s impeachment.

At the time, Lewinsky was a 22-year-old White House intern. In 1995, Lewinsky was hired to work as an intern at the White House during Clinton’s first term and began a personal relationship with him.
