Hip-Hop and fashion go hand in hand. Since its humble beginnings in the Bronx, Hip-Hop has been the gateway drug for fashion trends from generation to generation. Starting with adidas track suits and matching adidas shell toes rocked by legendary rap group Run DMC to the current pants sagging of Lil’ Wayne, whether you like it or not Hip-Hop celebrities not only create the music, but they often times start trends.

It may be hard to pull off some these celebrity style choices without their bank accounts, but that’s why I’m here. Below is a breakdown of some of the top male Hip-Hop trendsetters and a few must-have items that will get you their look.
Big Sean

The Detroit native and G.O.O.D. Music member (did I mention Kanye West‘s protégé) has style dripping out his pores! Let’s face it Sean makes everything look good. Recently Big Sean was featured in an amazing spread featuring his new coatless winter look. Ever wondered what you needed to incur his look? Here are a few items you should stock up on: blazer, quilted vest, Indigo denim jeans, brown hi top hard bottoms, cashmere scarf and a pocket square to complete the look.

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean is no newcomer to the game, he’s penned and produced tracks for years for the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z and Beyonce before he got his chance at the spotlight. Frank‘s style is basic and clean showing that he has taste but doesn’t take himself too seriously. Basic ingredients to get Frank’s look include: patterned button down shirts, distressed jeans, Nike Dunks and a bandana.

Chris Brown

Chris has been a fashionable dude since he hit the scene as a baby crooner. He hasn’t always been on the best-dressed list, but with maturity comes a new fashion sense. Chris has become known for his trendy street style, love for Jordans and ability to set trends. Replicate Chris’ street style with a jean Jacket, denim jeans, a pair of Jordans, a hoodie and graphic tees.

Kanye West

Kanye West has single handily changed the face of Hip-Hop fashion. The one-man fashion army was one of the firsts to usher us away from the baggy trend and towards the fitted look – skinny jeans complete with accessories and swag. He made dudes feel comfortable in blazers and shoes as opposed to hoodies and Timberlands. Achieving his look is a little pricier, but definitely worth it if you want a tight look. Add these items to your closet for a Kanye-look: leather pants, leather shirt, denim shirt, designer bracelet, and a pair of designer sneakers.

Jay-Z

When Jay-Z instructs us to change clothes, we hop to it. Known for setting trends and keeping up with them, no one does it quite like the Jigga Man. Jay’s so cool about it and who wouldn’t want to exemplify his effortless swag? Some staples pieces that will get you Jay’s look easily include: camo or cargo pants, a pair of Jordans, crew neck sweater and if you’re so inclined a shiny Jesus piece will add to the look.
