She texted her mom:

“Gymnastics is not my passion anymore.
“I can get a job at Chick-Fil-A in Virginia Beach and live off the 14-grand I just won at World Championships.”

“I just want to be a normal teenage kid.”

Gabby also told her mom that she would run track, or be a dancer, or a singer. She was willing to do almost anything except be a gymnast.

Her mom told Gabby that this news broke her heart, even though it didn’t seem to change her mind.

According to the book, it was her older brother John who convinced her to stay with the sport.

It’s a good thing Gabby didn’t give up on her journey so we could all see her shine!
