It’s always refreshing to see the glitz and glam of a red carpet, but it is especially refreshing when the red carpet is for an exceptional philanthropic cause, and CNN’s Hero Awards were just that. 

The annual awards show has been hosted by Anderson Cooper since its inaugural ceremony in 2007 and ever since.

This year, the red carpet featured the likes of Viola Davis, 50 Cent, Adrien Brody and a plethora of celebrities and do-gooders alike, but the real winner of the night was not a red carpet star.

Pushpa Basnet, a Nepalese woman who supports children so they don’t have to live behind bars with their incarcerated parents, was named the 2012 CNN Hero of the Year.
