News of Hadiya Pendleton’s death, the 15-year-old honor student who was gunned down in Chicago, has spread as far as the Senate and President Barack Obama, but still, there’s no news of the gunman who took her life.
Now, Hadiya’s parents are offering a reward for anyone who is able to come forward with information.
Nathaniel Pendleton, Hadiya’s father, urged the crowd a at press conference on Wednesday to step up and help bring his daughter’s shooter to justice.
“This guy, whoever he was, the gunman, man, you took the light of my life,” Pendleton said Wednesday, according to the Tribune. “Just look at yourself and just know that you took a bright person, an innocent person, a non-violent person.”
The family is offering $11,000 for information about the gunman.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel reacted to the news of Hadiya’s death, which makes the 43rd fatal shooting this month alone in Chicago.
“She is what is best in our city. A child going to school, who takes a final exam, who had just been to the inaugural,” the mayor said, according to CBS Chicago. “If anybody has any information, you are not a snitch. You’re a citizen.”
The police force vowed to work with the family to apprehend the gunman as well.
“Anybody who thinks this town belongs to a gang is wrong. We’re going to make a point that this town belongs to the community,” Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said.
If you have any information about Hadiya’s shooter, do not hesitate to contact the Chicago Police Department. We continue to pray for Hadiya’s family and friends.
