If you were lucky enough to be one of the few people that got a chance to see Alicia Keys on her Set the World on Fire tour, you may have noticed that Alicia Keys looked really good. Her outfits hugged her amazing curves and looked good throughout the entire show even when she wasn’t behind the piano like we are used to seeing her.  Alicia worked the stage in custom designs from both Michael Kors and Akris, largely due to the help of her stylist Laura Jones

Alicia found Laura while she was working for Edward Enninful at W magazine. Since then Laura has helped Alicia develop not only her day to day looks but her onstage presence as well. Style.com got a chance to catch up with Laura to find out how she gets the job done so well.

Check out some of the standout pieces from the interview…

On the reason behind Alicia’s look:

“Alicia doesn’t like to do a lot of costume changes. We’re not trying to build up some big embellished look.  We didn’t want her to be hidden by the clothes”

On how Alica wanted to be styled:

“Alicia really, really loves clothes and she’s really hands on. She’s hit a place in her life where she’s feeling really confident. We wanted her wardrobe to reflect that,

On what she looks for in consume design for Alicia:

“The focus was on details, fit, and flattering cuts. It’s all about understanding how she’s going to perform and knowing what fabrics are camera friendly and body friendly.  My job is to make sure the clothes never get in the way of her performance. They should maximize her movements, maximize how she feels, and be a great marriage of functionality, sophistication, and longevity. She’s touring for the rest of the year, so she needs to wear something that won’t feel stale in a couple of months,”
