They’re homies and all, but what exactly did President Obama say when he was finally asked about Jay-Z and Beyonce’s trip to Cuba?

NEW MUSIC: Jay-Z & Common “Open Letter Pt. II”

“We’ve got better things to do!”

On a TODAY show interview, the President, no shade thrown, explained why the trip wasn’t even a priority for him.

“I wasn’t familiar that they were taking the trip. My understanding is I think they went through a group that organizes these educational trips down to Cuba. You know, this is not something the White House was involved with.”

Instead, he said he’s working on much better things than being all up in the hip-hop royal couple’s business. Like focusing on gun control (today the Senate is scheduled to vote on a plan that expands background checks on firearms purchases), and immigration.

“I feel personally responsible the same way I hope every parent out there feels responsible for all our kids. The key thing for me, is every once in a while we are confronted with an issue that should transcend politics.”

He added:

“I think the political engines of the party and blogs, et cetera, force people into taking more extreme positions publicly than they actually believe privately. I’m willing to try anything. As I’ve said, I’m willing to wash folks’ cars and walk their dogs if I can get some legislation passed.”

You better let them know what these politicians should REALLY be worried about. Kudos to our President.
