In a speech to the Delta Sigma Theta sorority yesterday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that her deepest condolences were with Trayvon Martin‘s parents, as well as other parents who have lost children due to violence.

“My prayers are with the Martin family and with every family who loves someone who is lost to violence,” she stated. “No mother, no father, should ever have to fear for their child walking down a street in the United States of America.”

She also showed gratitude to Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice for continuing their investigation in the case, regarding the decision whether or not to press criminal civil rights charges on George Zimmerman.

The Zimmerman verdict wasn’t the only important topic Hillary discussed at the event. Clinton also spoke on the Supreme Court’s revocation of the Voting Rights Act:

“I want to make sure that in the next election and the next election and the next and every one after that, people line up to vote and they vote regardless of those who may not want to count their vote or acknowledge their right to vote,” Mrs. Clinton said.

Let’s hope our votes count if and when she’s ever running for presidency!
