Friday the 13th is undoubtedly the freakiest day of the year.

If you’re superstitious, today is probably the day you want to avoid all inanimate objects like ladders and random street scaffolding, JUST IN CASE something freaky happens.

With the looming fear of Friday the 13th plaguing many superstitious people in Western society, we decided to round up 13 outrageous urban legends, rumors, freakish stories, and myths surrounding the music industry.

We’re finally going to debunk all of the myths surrounding some of the most legendary musicians in music history once and for all.

Check out the most outrageous urban legends down below.

TUPAC SHAKUR

1. Tupac is alive

The conspiracies surrounding the death of hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur are endless, but the most prominent urban legend is that the “All Eyez On Me” rapper is alive and well and hiding out on some obscure island.

2. The Detox

If you’re counting on Dr. Dre to release The Detox, keep on counting. Dr. Dre’s Detox album is the most anticipated hip-hop album of our generation, and honestly, fans will probably never get to hear it. There have been rumors and speculation that Dr. Dre hasn’t even started working on the follow-up album, but we think he’s just a perfectionist and isn’t up for risking the legacy The Chronic and 2001 garnered.

marilynmanson

3. Marilyn Manson removed six ribs to give himself fellatio

Marilyn Manson is weird, but not weird enough to get his ribs removed for sexual satisfaction. The emergence of the odd goth god spawned dozens of rumors, but news of rib removal definitely took the cake. Is it even possible to have six ribs removed? We think not.

4. Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain

The death of Kurt Cobain shook the music community, but the grunge rocker’s apparent suicide ignited many conspiracy theories. From rumors that the Nirvana frontman faked his own death, to the unfortunate rumor that pinned his wife Courtney Love as his murderer, the myths surrounding Kurt Cobain’s death are absolutely absurd. Thankfully, none of them are true, but unfortunately, Kurt is in fact responsible for his own death.

Big-Pun

5. Big Pun hit Jay Z in the head with a bottle

Angst between New York rappers Big Pun and Jay Z kept the streets buzzing, but rumors of a bottle throwing altercation made New Yorkers have to pick a side – Team Jay or Team Pun. Thankfully, after all these years former Terror Squad member Cuban Link laid the rumor to rest and revealed it was actually Memphis Bleek who hit a Terror Squad member in the head with a bottle, and Jay Z was nowhere around during the time.

6. The government gave Eazy E AIDS

After the untimely death of Eazy E, rumors began to swirl that the government secretly administered him the HIV virus. The controversial emcee was once the target of a government investigation and after his quick death from AIDS, many hip-hop fans believe the government had something to do with his death. Obviously, none of those claims have been supported.

7. Jay Z stabbed Lance Rivera

Contrary to popular belief, Jay Z did not stab Lance Rivera, well, according to Lance Rivera. The news broke that Jay Z was being indicted for stabbing Lance Rivera over the leak of his Vol. 3 album, but years later, Lance admitted the stabbing never happened and it was all a huge publicity stunt. Oddly enough, Jay Z pled guilty to the charges of felony assault, which went on his record.

Shaggy and Styles P Visit MTV's "Sucker Free" - November 20, 2007

8. Styles P Dissed Aaliyah

This line, “Rock the boat, rock the boat, one less bitch in a Roc-a-wear coat,” has been floating around the internet for years, but no one has ever heard the song. Apparently, the line surfaced on the internet in the middle of Styles P’s heated beef with Roc-a-Fella Records, but no one has ever heard the alleged Aaliyah diss record.

lauryn-hill

9. Lauryn Hill Rather Her Kids Starve Than Have White People Buying Her Albums.

Absurdity at its finest. In 1996, a rumor began that Lauryn Hill stated she would “rather her kids starve than have a white person buying my albums” in a MTV Interview. MTV confirmed that no interview of that nature ever took place and they have no idea how that rumor began.

debbie-harry

10. Debby Harry Hitchhiked With Serial Killer Ted Bundy

Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry claims she hitched a ride with ’70s serial killer Ted Bundy. The story has changed numerous times over the years, but Debbie claims she was in the Lower East Side section of New York City when she was trying to catch a cab. Apparently, a man in a white car pulled up and offered to give her a ride across town. During her car ride, Debbie got nervous and tried to escape from the car when her abductor noticed and turned the corner, quickly ejecting her from the car. It wasn’t until years later that Debbie realized the man she hitchhiked with was Ted Bundy – or at least she thought he was. A historian on the serial killer debunked Debbie’s claims by revealing the infamous murderer never spent time in New York City and revealed that many women during the Ted Bundy era claimed to have been abducted by the crazed killer.

Weird as hell, we know.

11. Keith Richards Snorted His Dad’s Ashes

In 2007, Keith Richards took a joke a little too far and people believed it. During an interview, Keith joked that he snorted his dead father’s ashes. Apparently, the journalist didn’t pick up on the jig. After the rumor picked up steam, Keith denied it, claiming he was “joking.”

Three years later in an autobiography, Keith cleared up the rumors and sort of confirmed the possibility that he might have inhaled his dad’s ashes, stating:

“The truth of the matter is that after having Dad’s ashes in a black box for six years, because I really couldn’t bring myself to scatter him to the winds, I finally planted a sturdy English oak to spread him around. And as I took the lid off of the box, a fine spray of his ashes blew out on to the table. I couldn’t just brush him off so I wiped my finger over it and snorted the residue.”

12. Ohio Players’ “Love Rollercoaster” Features The Screams Of A Girl Murdered In The Studio Next To Theirs

“Love Rollercoaster” sounds like the rollercoaster of death. The Ohio Players’ urban legend goes as such: as the band was recording their classic “Love Rollercoaster,” a woman was allegedly murdered in the studio next door. The band heard her screams and recorded them for their “Love Rollercoaster” record. For some reason this outrageous story has been passed down generation to generation, but it’s not true.

13. Jimi Hendrix Put LSD Under His Headband To Get High

The legendary Jimi Hendrix became iconic for his funkadelic headbands, but after his death, rumors swirled that the famed guitarist planted LSD, heroine, or acid (depending on who you ask) under his headband to get high. Don’t know how it works, but the myth claimed Hendrix would make a small abrasion on his forehead and absorb the drugs via his open wound. Jimi’s family completely maintains that the rumor surrounding Jimi’s drug use is untrue.
