A truce has been made in the battle between the late-night Jimmys. Jimmy Fallon and his late-night TV rival Jimmy Kimmel have made a deal – a friendship pact, if you will – as they prepare to face off this spring.
Fallon is currently preparing to take over NBC’s The Tonight Show in February 2014, replacing Jay Leno. The show’s biggest rival? Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Though they will be officially in competition for ratings, the two Jimmys are determined to avoid having a late night war, a production insider told Radar Online.
“They have made a pinky promise to go easy on each other and be friends and even appear on each other’s show when they’re in each other’s perspective cities,” the insider said.
The late-night funny-men want to avoid a feud like the one between Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and David Letterman. In fact, Radar Online reports that Fallon and Kimmel “are both embarrassed by the conduct of the older generation and all the in-fighting between Letterman, Leno and Conan.”
“The two Jimmys have promised to make this work and be civil to one another, even if nobody around them believes that’s possible.”
Execs at both TV stations are allegedly aware of the pact and believe it can withstand the test of time and ratings. We will see! Which Jimmy will you be watching?
