Lenny Kravitz is having the best year ever. Not only has the rocker-turned-actor starred in some of the year’s biggest hits including The Butler, which has already received major Oscar buzz, but he is also reprising his role as Cinna in the highly anticipated Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.
The “Fly Away” crooner is so badass that he plays a mean electric guitar comparable to legendary greats such as Jimi Hendrix, but he also sings with a passion that very few artists possess. Often seen with his daughter Zoe Kravitz, he is also quite the doting dad. Oh, and did we mention that at 49-years-old, he proves that the fountain of youth is alive and well?
Our love for Lenny runs deep. So deep, that we decided to give you a treat that money certainly can’t buy and it comes via Mr. Kravitz’s Instagram page. In celebration of the selfie’s “word of the year” title, get ready to feast your eyes on some of Lenny’s most epic selfies, accompanied by 11 reasons why pressing that follow button on this rocker’s page is quite the necessity.
1. He calls some of the biggest celebs “friends.”
Lenny’s career spans over a quarter of a century, so it comes as no surprise that he has built friendships with the likes of some of the biggest celebs of the past and present. Some of which include Jennifer Lawrence, Jay Z & even Mick Jagger.
2. You could probably raid his closet.
In his 2011 interview with Details magazine, the rocker explained how his daughter has no problem rocking her dad’s wardrobe. “She took all my boas from the Mama Said era. They were in storage, and I yelled at her, ‘Don’t steal my boas!’ She laughed and said, ‘Those words would not come out of most fathers’ mouths.'” Sounds like a match made in heaven.
3. He respects his elders and makes you want to run home and kiss your granny.
There is nothing like a true gentleman that respects those who have come before him. In one of his pics Lenny even boasted, “Those that have come before us paved the way. Visit your elders and tell them how much you love them. Let Love Rule!”
4. He would probably serenade you while playing the guitar, on a beach, or shirtless (washboard abs, anyone?)
Not only does the “American Woman” singer work effortlessly to perfect his virtuosic skills, but he also puts in work at the gym and is no stranger to showing off the fruits of his labor. Yes please and more!
5. He’s no stranger to the shameless selfie.
Whether it be courtside at a Heat game, mixing his current single in the recording studio, or on a tropical island, Lenny never seems to disappoint when it comes to perfecting the art of the self-portrait.
6. President Barack Obama calls him a pal and rocks out to Lenny’s music.
What do you do when the Commander-in-Chief calls you up personally to perform for him? You absolutely say yes and rock out with your – (you get the point). Well, that is exactly what Lenny did during his tribute to Led Zeppelin during the Kennedy Honors Awards in 2012. During his performance, you see Prez Obama singing along (on another note, how awesome is our president?)
7. His dog Leroy is his closest confidante.
Beside every rock star…is his dog. Lenny calls his Brindle dog Leroy his best friend, often taking photos of the two cuddling (sooo cute).
8. He’s a true mama’s boy, who ain’t afraid to show it.
In 1995, Lenny lost his mother and famed actress, Roxie Roker, to breast cancer and has never stopped paying tribute to her. Often saying that his mother serves as his biggest inspiration, he even got a portrait of her tattooed on his forearm.
9. He exudes hotness even when doing the most menial tasks.
Is it even possible to look this hot while pumping gas?
Or casually reading the newspaper, while sipping on a cup of Joe?
We will take whatever he is cooking…..
10. He’s a jack of ALL trades.
Lenny can act his ass off, sing his ass off, play almost any instrument put in his path and even designs hotels? Yes, our man can do it all with swag unlike anyone else.
11. He calls Prince a “big brother.”
How many of us can even say that?
If you need any more convincing, take a look at the viral video below in which Kravitz crashes a high school band’s performance and joins in to sing his smash hit “Fly Away.” If this doesn’t warm your heart, then we don’t know what will.
