Heather Sederbaum’s 2nd grade daughter was shocked to find a gun that belonged to her mother inside of her backpack while in school.

The 34-year-old woman from South Carolina was arrested this weekend and has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property, as well as unlawful conduct towards a child.

The daughter alerted the teacher of the pink and black Ruger .380 in her bag, who alerted the principal, who then called the police to investigate.

According to live5news.com, the mother – who was later released on a $2,500 bond –  is a parent volunteer at the elementary school.

Another parent volunteer spoke to the station and told them:

“She opened up her purse and showed us a gun that was black and pink. And the other volunteer said you cannot have that on school premise. She said she had a concealed weapons permit. I was shocked.”

Another parent said:

“(The) gun was found in (the) backpack on Thursday. How can you say it’s not an immediate danger. What if that child had picked up that weapon and the gun would have gone off and somebody would have gotten shot?”

We’re glad this little girl is safe and no one got hurt!
