Our girl Jada Pinkett Smith is makin’ deals.

JPS just signed onto Fox’s Batman prequel television show Gotham, slated to premiere later this year. But Jada’s character certainly differs from how we’re used to seeing her on-screen.

Smith confirmed her role as “Fish Mooney” via Facebook:

To my Facebook family Last night, I decided to accept the role of Fish Mooney, who is the sadistic villain in thee upcoming Batman prequel, Gotham, for Fox TV. I’ve committed to a year to work alongside a very talented cast, a super cool, creative and talented head writer and an extraordinary director. This one…is going to be funnnnnn!Stay tuned:)J

Smith signed a year-long contract to the show, meaning her plot lines can get pretty creative. Her character reads as “imposing, hot-headed, and not to be crossed.” We’re crossing our fingers that she’ll let out a little Niobe, circa The Matrix. Plus this will be the first time we’ve seen Jada on the small screen since her TNT drama HawthoRNe went off the air in 2012.

The series itself features the origin story of several familiar and unfamiliar faces from the DC Comic Batman. Fan favorites including Penguin, Catwoman, and Riddler are rumored to make an appearance on the show.

Other big Hollywood players joining the cast include Ben McKenzie from Southland and The O.C., who will be playing Jim Gordon before he became Commissioner of Gotham.

Stay tuned for more details.
