Yesterday, we reported that a producer who used to work with Jay Z was allegedly planning to extort him for $20 million over stolen master recordings made during the Roc-A-Fella Records years.
According to TMZ, the producer, Chauncey Mahan, is expected to face charges of extortion and grand larceny after attempting to strike a $100,000 “storage fee” deal for a set of master recordings that include masters for Jay’s Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter and The Dynasty: Roc La Familia albums.
Mahan spoke out against the charges, claiming that Def Jam told him to hold onto the recordings and that his previous attempts to give them back have been ignored by Jay Z’s camp for ten years.
Hov has not yet released a statement on the matter, but one of his greatest friends and collaborators during that time, Just Blaze, took to Twitter to address the situation himself:
Chauncey stayed effing up. Big part of the reason Hip and I brought in Guru.

Duro calls him out on it. He runs over to Soundtrack studios, comes in the room like “yo Duro I ain’t no bitch” takes his jacket off.

Me and Duro just looked at him. Blankest of stares.. And went back to work. — Just Blaze (@JustBlaze) April 21, 2014
If you listen to Bleek’s version of “is that your b***h” you’ll notice it’s in mono. Why? Bc Chauncey. Lol.

We eventually got tired of it. I randomly ended up doing a session with this new engineer who called himself @Young_Guru..

He was young, understood the sound, and knew what he was doing. Brought him in on a Hov session as a test and it clicked. Rest is history. — Just Blaze (@JustBlaze) April 21, 2014
Oh. And I have backups of just about all of those files Chauncey tried to extort for. Dummy.
