A woman from Brooksville, Florida and her baby were accidentally killed by a friend while she was admiring their gun collection.

According to the Daily Mail, Katherine Lynn Hoover was shot in the head by her friend William DeHayes as he passed her his .22 caliber revolver. The 25-year-old was 5 months pregnant.

Hoover was taken to the hospital and doctors were able to remove the baby at 8:00 p.m. The child died 30 minutes later. Hoover is survived by husband and 6-year-old son.

The family friend of the shooter says that Hoover’s husband, Carver, is distraught over the accident.

According to the Tampa Bay Tribune, Carson Hoover is ‘very distraught’, said Gregory Stewart. “I just got off the phone with him,’ said Stewart. ‘He is very upset and going through the range of emotions a normal person would. He’s not sleeping, very traumatized. Carson is an all-around nice guy and a very good family man. He has two children now he still has to take care of. That will be difficult.”

Neighbors were puzzled by Hoover’s death since the reports claim that she was killed at a point-blank range.

“It’s very hard to believe it was an accident, especially point-blank in the temple, that’s hard to understand,” said neighbor Josh Hady.

Police have declared the case accidental, but have decided to leave the case open for further investigation. DeHayes has not been charged.
