As if there wasn’t enough controversy surrounding advertisements and magazines setting the standard for women’s body image, a European retailer recently added to the discord by using a pretty disturbing window display.
The European retailer Primark displayed mannequins that were advertising more than just the clothing.
A Primark customer tweeted a picture of one mannequin that was noticeably very skinny with a concave stomach and protruding ribs. Many other customers were equally as disturbed, which also led to a discussion about the message retailers are sending to women about their bodies.
Dear @Primark, is it really necessary that these new mannequins have protruding ribs?? pic.twitter.com/xEWSBrsZWw

Huffington Post reports that Primark has since removed the thin mannequins from the window displays, but has yet to comment on why they chose to ever use them.
