Each year, iHeartRadio calls on some of the hottest artists of the past year to headline their annual music festival, and 2014 was another big one for the books.

Yesterday kicked off day 1 of the 2-day fest in Las Vegas, and along with the prestigious lineup were some awesome surprises for fans during some of the bigger sets.

Nicki Minaj was one of the major headliners of the evening, and she performed some of her biggest hits including “Anaconda,” and even an acapella version of her verse on the “Flawless” remix. It was an appearance from Ariana Grande, however, that had the crowd at the edge of their seats.

Performing their joint Jessie J-assisted hit, who was unable to make it out during Nicki’s set, the two girls shut down the arena with “Bang Bang.”

Last night also included an opening performance from Taylor Swift, who sang her fan favorites, including “Never Getting Back Together,” “22,” and her new single “Shake It Off” that had the whole venue dancing.

Chris Martin also had his own set with his band Coldplay. He was allegedly joined by his rumored girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence backstage after he performed some of their classic hits.

One of the biggest surprises of the night came later on in Usher‘s set, as he not only performed some of his biggest hits – old and new – in preparation for his upcoming tour, he also brought out Chris Brown.

The two R&B swooners catered to the ladies with their new track “New Flame,” and sang their hearts out on the venue stage.
