Back in September, Royce da 5’9 announced that he was releasing a joint album with legendary producer DJ Premier.

Three months later, the duo, who call themselves PRhyme when together, released their self-titled debut album. The project, which has features from everyone from Mac Miller to Common to Killer Mike, is one of the best records of the year.

The album works so well because it’s clear the guys have great chemistry. And that’s because their history is more than 10 years deep (their first big collaboration was “Boom,” which dropped in 2002).

We could see Royce and Primo’s chemistry up close when the two dropped by the GlobalGrind offices the other day. While here, they talked about their collaboration and gave details about the making of this album.

We got some cool tidbits from them — including who the “Boom” beat was originally for, and the amount of times Royce “bodied” Eminem on a song — so check out the interview above.
