South Carolina teen Matthew Fischer is currently in police custody after fatally stabbing his classmate for sending Snapchats to his girlfriend.

The 17-year-old was reportedly upset with Lucas Cavanaugh, 16, for sending a message to his girlfriend on the popular app on Sunday. With Snapchat messages lasting no longer than a few seconds, Fischer sent a message of his own to the teen that read, “Come over” and “I’ll kill you man.”

After Cavanaugh headed to Fischer’s girlfriend’s home in Mount Pleasant, the two got into a brawl and Cavanaugh was stabbed in the chest. According to the New York Daily News:

Cavanaugh drove over to the house in a silver VW Jetta. He and Fischer started fighting. Fischer pulled a knife from his right front pocket, fatally stabbed Cavanaugh in the torso and fled the scene, according to police. Fischer called his mother from his cellphone not far from the house. She brought him back to the scene, and he told police what happened, according to the affidavit.

Both teens attended Wando High School in Mount Pleasant. Cavanaugh was a junior and was hoping to attend The University of Cincinnati to study automotive engineering and design.Fischer was charged as an adult with murder and possession of a knife.
