Last week, Vanessa ignited a media firestorm when she announced her plans to divorce Lakers star Kobe Bryant after 10 years of marriage. Now reports are saying she thought about leaving him awhile ago.
A source close to the couple said: “Vanessa almost threw in the towel four years ago. ‘Kobe has always had a slew of girlfriends, and the cheating was almost blatant.
‘Vanessa had consulted with a divorce attorney, not Laura Wasser, who she has hired to represent her now. Kobe promised Vanessa he would stop cheating, and the two went to marriage counseling.
“Kobe did seem like a devoted husband, and Vanessa decided not to go through with filing at that time.”
The 33-year-old NBA All-Star has been accused of cheating with multiple women, and while many people are sympathizing with Vanessa, her ex-step dad isn’t one of those people.

Stephen Laine, who was married to Vanessa’s mother from 1990 – 2003, says she stuck around to suck more money out of Kobe.
Laine told TMZ:
“Her mother taught her well to wait for the ten-year mark [before divorcing].” He explains, “In California … it’s considered a long term marriage and then she gets paid for life or until she remarries … just like her mother is doing to me.” The inventory manager for a food company continues, “I have to pay her mom $1,800 every month and clearly they don’t need it.”
