Oprah Winfrey has been working on developing her new OWN television network for quite some time now, but there may be some problems brewing.

The famous talk-show host and network CEO just laid off 30 employees from the struggling network, which turns out to be one fifth of its staff!

Oprah recently sent out a statement regarding the worker cut-off:

It is difficult to make tough business decisions that affect people’s lives. But the economics of a start-up cable network just don’t work with the cost structure that was in place. As CEO, I have a responsibility to chart the course for long-term success for the network. To wholly achieve that long-term success, this was a necessary next step.

Since the network’s ratings are a lot lower than anticipated, Oprah made the decision with her team to even cancel Rosie O’Donnell’s show just last week.

Things don’t look too good for OWN, but we can be sure that if anyone can come back on top, it’s Oprah Winfrey!
