Russell Brand has filed for divorce from Katy Perry citing irreconcilable differences, according to TMZ.

The couple were married in India on Oct. 23, 2010 and have been the focus of divorce rumors for the last few months.
Russell has issued a statement saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
The 36-year-old Get Him To The Greek actor recently shot down questions that there was trouble in his marriage on Ellen saying, “I am really happily married.”
He even joked that the internet was a wicked little liar.
“Yeah, there are always rumors aren’t there. In the end you have to just not engage with Internet technology, which is difficult because a lot of the nude women websites I quite enjoy (laughing.) But they’ve had to go. I’ve treated the whole Internet now like it’s a wicked little liar.”
The couple spent the holidays 7000 miles apart and neither Katy or Russell had on their wedding rings.

TMZ also reports that while it’s not clear, Russell Brand may have blindsided Katy by filing for divorce.
