Art Basel took place once again in Miami this year and our very own Russell Simmons made his mark on the big art event. He and Danny Simmons’ Rush Philanthropic Art Foundation have continued their partnership with the 2012 Artisan Series, an incredible opportunity for talented emerging artists from across the country to showcase their imaginative works of art.

Twelve semi-finalists from across the country flew into Miami for the event and their amazing pieces were on display. In the end, two winners were chosen in an emotional winners’ announcement.

In conjunction with the Artisan Series’ celebration of creativity, MINI came on board because of its commitment to the arts and support of emerging artists. They were a perfect fit for the event as their heritage has always been about independence and iconic design.

The exciting festivities went down at The Moore Building and with the help of MINI, it was definitely one for the books.

Chauffeured in a beautiful MINI with his girlfriend, Hana Nitsche by his side, Uncle Rush arrived at the Miami Artisan Series event to join some of our favorite Hip-Pop celebs that were in attendance to take in all the sights and sounds of this special occasion.

Artist Miguel Ovalle created a one of a kind art piece LIVE in front of the crowd and painted on the roof of a MINI, which MINI graciously donated. The piece turned out amazing! There were also two unique, eye-catching MINIs on display at the event. The night was complete with aerialist performances and a seasoned crowd of artists and filmmakers. Russell made sure the fabulous artwork by Miguel on the MINI roof didn’t go home all alone.

The real fun kicked off when Russell auctioned off the artwork to a lucky winner who got to add the one of a kind art piece to her personal collection. The auction money went towards Rush Philanthropic.

DJ Cassidy took over the one’s and two’s and had the event rocking, while our girl Rocsi Diaz was also on the scene looking beautiful as always.

Check out a couple pictures from the Miami shindig in the accompanying gallery! We think it’s great that MINI supports the arts and creativity!
