GlobalGrind would love to tip their hats at Lil Wayne for his newfound sobriety and his ability to teach fans “How To Love.”

For the 60,000 fans that got to witness Lil Wayne perform at Hot 97’s annual Summer Jam concert, they’ll all probably say that Lil Wayne seemed like a new and improved version of his old self. “Lil Tunechi” is what his grandmother calls him, but as he’s widely known as Lil Wayne, Lil Weezy, or just plain old Weezy, the rapper energetically came out to drum cadences and rifts from an electric guitar as the beat for “A Milli” rumbled the stadium stage.

After only a few seconds into his set, Lil Wayne seemed different, but in a good way. His energy was fresh, he didn’t sport a red cup in his hand, his speech was clear and his dance moves were hitting. Before getting in too deep, Lil Wayne cut the music to chit-chat with his fans about his time spent in Riker’s Island. The music fell silent as Lil Wayne’s breath lightly grazed his microphone as 60,000 people sat and listened quietly to whatever announcement the Young Money rapper was about to make.

Lil Wayne began his speech with three important things that he wanted everyone to know. In a serious and heartfelt tone Lil Wayne listed off his three issues,”Number one, I believe in God.” The crowd roared with his acceptance and acknowledgement of a higher being. Lil Wayne continued “Number two, I aint sh*t without you.” He stopped briefly to allow praise from his fans, which was necessary as the stadium rafters rumbled with applause. Lil Wayne’s last admission purposefully resembled his second, “And most importantly I aint sh*t without YOU!” he yelled.

With that heartfelt speech laid out on the Summer Jam stage, Lil Wayne brought out all of his Young Money army: Lil Twist, Gudda Gudda, Tyga, Mack Maine, Lloyd, Shanell and Jae Millz.

Refering to Young Money as the “cool kids,” Lil Wayne hyped the crowd as he chanted “I’m going in” and boy oh boy, did he go in! Lil Wayne performed with an energy that any red cup filled with promethezine would prevent and he seemed so happy as he rocked out to his hit song “I’m Going In.”

Indeed, Lil Wayne “went in,” but something is to be said about the New Orleans native rapper, who used to boast about his use of codeine and promethezine. Once refering to himself as a “promethezine feine,” Lil Wayne is far from the sluggish word-slurring rapper who once considered himself a “gangsta.”
