Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, really wanted her hubby to pick former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as his Vice-Presidential running mate – not Paul Ryan.

STORY: Heartbreaking! Ann Romney Opens Up About Miscarriage

According to a source who spoke with the MailOnline:

‘I know that Ann Romney was intrigued by the idea of having Condi on the ticket,’ a top Romney fundraiser with close personal ties to the Romneys told MailOnline. ‘At the Utah fundraiser, she gave an unbelievable speech.

‘Ann is a sounding board for Mitt. He values her intuition. Their relationship is the real deal. After the fundraiser, Condi was vetted and she filled out all the forms but she was reluctant and I don’t think she was ever going to get it.

‘Mitt Romney is not the sort of guy who would ask someone unless they were 100 per cent committed. He needed a guy who was going to burn rubber and after eight years in Washington I don’t think she really wanted to go back there.’

Both sources said that the final choice was between Ryan, 42, and Senator Rob Portman of Ohio. The selection of Ryan, who electrified the convention with his speech on Wednesday night, has led to a surge in Republican hopes that Romney can win.

We must admit, a Romney/Rice ticket would be dope and it would have definitely garnered a few women voters for Romney, as the female demographic has him trailing Obama in many polls.
