It’s been sewn into the fabric of our Constitution, so to change or alter the Second Amendment would be blasphemous.

I say it over and over again, we’re a gun loving country and there’s little to nothing we can do about it, but at least we can put up a fight.

Taking away an American’s right to carry a gun is like telling Honey Boo Boo she can’t have sketti for dinner. Which is why during last night’s second presidential debate at Hofstra University, both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney scored a big fat zero when it came to the gun control question.

Nina Gonzalez, an audience member, asked the candidates about guns, to which Obama said that he’s in favor of banning assault weapons – but not banning all guns.

A favorable answer, but still not what the NRA and gun lobbyists alike want to hear, which is why I tweeted last night that both aforementioned groups won that question.

Neither candidate has any intention of holding these special interest groups’ feet to the fire.

In 2010, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave the President a report card of seven F’s for his handling of gun legislation.

In fact, in just one year, Obama signed into law more repeals of federal gun policies than his predecessor George W. Bush.

What Obama did do was reverse Reagan Era rules, by allowing Americans to carry loaded guns in national parks and Amtrak trains.

Obama said it himself in an Op-Ed piece written in the Arizona Daily Star:

“In fact, my administration has not curtailed the rights of gun owners — it has expanded them, including allowing people to carry their guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.”

Obama has gone on record however, saying that assault weapons only have one purpose and that’s to kill people.

Romney, on the other hand, will always be the opportunist businessman, answering the town hall question by saying he believed no new gun laws were necessary:

“I’m not in favor of new pieces of legislation on guns.”

I’m not advocating getting rid of all guns, but at least stand up to the special interests who continue to lobby in favor of keeping assault weapons on the streets.

Obama’s resolve was education, Mitt’s solution is blaming single parent homes: “We need moms and dads helping raise kids,” suggesting that children born out of wedlock were more likely to resort to gun violence.

That’s why I said the NRA and gun rights special interest groups won that question last night – both candidates spat a bunch of malarkey.
