Special prosecutor to the Trayvon Martin shooting case, State Attorney Angela Corey, decided against using a grand jury, saying in a press release today that “it’s not needed.”

From the moment she was assigned, Ms. Corey noted she may not need a grand jury. Today in a statement released through the press she reaffirmed this belief, saying that the grand jury set to begin tomorrow is not needed as the investigation continues.

Corey went on to say that the decision not to use grand jury “should not be considered a factor in the final determination.”

Corey’s decision not to use a grand jury means she’ll decide whether to charge Zimmerman or not.

Martin family attorney, Benjamin Crump said:

“The family is trying to be patient and have faith in the system the best they can. We need to have an arrest. We just think they’ve got enough evidence.

We are not surprised by this announcement and, in fact, are hopeful that a decision will be reached very soon to arrest George Zimmerman and give #TrayvonMartin’s family the simple justice they have been seeking all along.

The family has been patient throughout this process and asks that those who support them do the same during this very important investigation.”

State attorney officials went on to say:

“At this time, the investigation continues and there will be no further comment from this office.”

Sources also told WFTV news on Monday that Zimmerman could be arrested this week now that the grand jury won’t be used. Zimmerman’s lawyers said that if Zimmerman is charged, he will remain quiet until everything is over.

Zimmerman’s lawyers went on to say that if he is not charged, he will speak out.

17-year-old Trayvon was shot and killed by neighborhood watchman, 28-year-old George Zimmerman. Trayvon was returning from a local 7-Eleven after buying a bag of Skittles and iced tea.

He was then spotted by Zimmerman while returning to his father’s girlfriend’s home inside their gated community. Zimmerman called 911, explaining that Trayvon, who was wearing a hoodie at the time, a pair of blue jeans, and red/white sneakers, looked suspicious.

Zimmerman pursued Trayvon even after he was told not to by the 911 dispatcher.

When Zimmerman approached Trayvon, the two got into a scuffle, resulting in Trayvon taking a bullet to the chest at point blank range.

Zimmerman claimed that he shot Trayvon on grounds of self-defense, although Trayvon was unarmed.

Since the murder of Trayvon, the entire nation has expressed outrage.

George Zimmerman has not been arrested yet as more evidence comes forward proving that his claims of self-defense were false.
