In the past we’ve brought you the dirtiest cities in the world and the most dangerous cities in America to showcase how people live in other parts of the world. Now we have the happiest states in America!
These are the cities that will leave a permanent smile on your face.
The good folks at Gallup researched and tracked the well-being of every state across the country. Using their Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, they scored each state on a scale from 0 to 100; hitting the century mark means your state has the best overall well-being.
The state-level data were based on daily surveys conducted from January through December 2011. But which states are the happiest?
As Gallup points out, overall Western and Midwestern states earned 9 of the 10 highest well-being scores, while Southern states accounted for half of the 10 lowest well-being scores.
