The destructive Hurricane Sandy turned out to be the deadliest hurricane to affect the Northeast United States in over 40 years. 

In all, 650,000 US homes were either damaged or destroyed, and about 8 billion people lost power. Many of those remained without power for over 90 days.

Reports show that the hurricane caused 72 deaths. An additional 87 deaths are reported as indirectly related to Sandy by causes such as carbon monoxide poisoning and hypothermia. 

The hurricane falls behind Hurricane Agnes, which killed 122 people in 1972.

The deadliest hurricane in US History killed 8,000-12,000 people in Galveston, Texas in the year 1900.

Hurricane Sandy was also extremely costly, $50 billion, following behind Hurricane Katrina, $108 billion, as the second most costly hurricane ever to hit the United States.

Damn! We’re glad the Sandy relief-aid bill was finally passed, because we’re going to need that money ASAP!
