On Tuesday, a teenager celebrating his 18th birthday was hit by a subway train after attempting to cross tracks with two of his friends in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The teenager, Liam Armstrong, was a student at Smithtown High School East on Long Island.

One friend crossed safely, while the other remained on the platform. Unfortunately, both teenagers had to witness their friend, who was in the middle of the tracks, get hit by an oncoming subway car.

Witnesses describe the horrific incident.

“He got smacked by a 2 express trains,” said Anthony Escobar. “He got fried and mangled.”

According to reports, all three teenagers were headed to Penn Station when they realized they were on the wrong platform. Instead of walking up the steps to change sides, they decided to simply walk across the tracks.

At that time, a northbound 2 train was entering the station. The motorman tried to stop the train after spotting the teens, but it was too late and the 18-year-old died at the scene.

Our prayers go out to the friends and family of the victim.
