The principal, students and teachers at a D.C. elementary school have officially declared Friday “Trayvon Martin Day” as part of their “let’s keep our children safe” seminar.

Teachers at Malcolm X Elementary in Southeast are using the unfolding case to teach children about social injustice and race relations in the U.S.
Principal J. Harrison Coleman spoke about the initiative:
“Our goal is to stop the needless violence that’s going on in our communities as it’s all to relative to our children.”
Harrison went on to say that many of the students know about Trayvon’s case since his death in late February.
A happy spirit and a sense of bonding is what today is all about Harrison said; parents and adults will get an Arizona Ice Tea and each child will receive a bag of Skittles when they leave school at 3pm.
