As the city streets of Chicago continue to become more deadly, the Chicago Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies are seemingly running out of answers as to how to curb the violence. In a recent turn of events, the top brass has ‘enlisted’ the help of high ranking members of the same gangs that are being blamed for most of the violence. In a secret meeting on Chicago’s West Side, hosted by the CPD, with special guest appearances by West Side gang leaders, warnings were made. What was said at this meeting? If any member of a particular gang is to commit a murder in the city’s street, the leader of that gang would be held directly responsible. So in others words, if you are a leader than you should lead, despite the fact that what you are leading is an ongoing criminal enterprise. What the CPD fails to realize is gangs have drastically changed from the days that Larry Hoover, Jeff Fort, and Willie Lloyd ran the city’s street. Individuals still associate or affiliate themselves with particular gangs but their loyalty to their respective gangs only go as far as the benefits they receive from being a part of thta particular gang. In the past you became a member of a particular gang for protection or for some sense of family but now its all about money. A person is loyal to the individual that can put money in their pockets, regardless of what gang that individual may be in. Gone are the days of King Larry Hoover or King Willie Lloyd, now its King Coke or Chief Heroine. If the city really wants to stop the gang violence, they must first end the war on drugs. They also must understand that by enlisting the help of these leaders, they are giving them permission to continue to participate in illegal activities.
