5. Arthur Flegenheimer aka Dutch Schultz, D.O.B. August 6,1902-October 24,1935

The Original Bronx Gangster. Made his money in the numbers racket and also was bootlegger during prohibition. Notable mob hits include, mob boss Jacks ‘Legs’ Diamonds. Death: Schultz was gunned down at the Palace Chophouse in Newark, New Jersey in 1935.

4. Benjamin ‘Bugsy’ Siegel, D.O.B. Feb 28, 1906-June 20, 1947

Early on making his money bootlegging during prohibition, he then moved to California to develop crime syndicates involved in gambling and the numbers racket. Notable mob hits include mob boss Joe Masseria. Death: Bugsy’s death is an unsolved mystery, he was shot in the face with a .30 caliber military M1 rifle while sitting in his house.

 

3. John Gotti aka ‘The Teflon Don’, ‘Dapper Don’, D.O.B. October 27, 1940 – June 10, 2002

You name it Gotti did it, he made his fortune through gambling, loan sharking and drug dealing. Received his alias ‘Dapper Don’ because he dressed the part of a gangster. Notable mob hits include Gambino family boss Paul Castellano. Death: Gotti died in jail of throat cancer in June 2002.

2. Charles ‘Lucky’ Luciano, D.O.B. November 24,1897 – Jan 26, 1962

The Original Godfather and the boss of the Genovese crime family. One of the original masterminds of the international heroin trade. Created The Commission which is composed of representatives of the Five Families of New York City. Notable mob hits include crime boss Giuseppe Masseria. Death: Luciano died of a heart attack in 1962 in Italy.

 

 

1. Bernard ‘Bernie’ Madoff, D.O.B. April 29, 1938

A New York City financier and the former CEO of the Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. Made his money by operating and swindling the largest Ponzi Scheme in American history. Estimated client losses of about $65 Billion. Notable robberies include talk show host Larry King, New York University which he took for $24 Million, and actress Zsa Zsa Gabor which he took for $10 million. Death: On June 29, 2009, he was sentenced to 150 years in prison.
