Beyonce just dropped her new single “Girls (Who Run The World)” and (surprise!) it’s a track celebrating the girls who, to quote Ms. Bey, “run this mutha.”

We at GlobalGrind thought it fitting to rundown our list of female empowerment songs.

LISTEN: Beyonce’s Leaked Track “Girls (Who Run The World)”

From the obvious “I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy, to the not so obvious “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon, check out our list of songs about being a powerful woman, by other powerful women!

“Control,” Janet Jackson: The title track from Janet’s 1986 album of the same name helped the diva ― known back then as Michael Jackson’s little sister ― proclaim that she was all grown up.

“Independent Women, Part 1,” Destiny’s Child: There’s nothing more empowering than a woman who takes care of herself and Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle make “Independent Women” proud with this 2001 hit.

“You’re So Vain,” Carly Simon: This song isn’t as obvious as some of the others, but Simon’s 1972 bold tune, about a man so wrapped up in himself he’d think the song was about him, screams girl power.

“I Am Woman,” Helen Reddy: You can’t get more pro-feminism than this 1971 song by Helen Reddy. The song became a very obvious anthem for the Women’s Liberation Movement.

“Single Ladies,” Beyonce: Leave it to Beyonce to create an anthem for all the “Single Ladies.” The song sparked a craze, including YouTube parodies of the video and a slew of covers.
