Take It In The Ring

Contenders: Benjamin Netanyahu vs. Barack Obama

Match: On Friday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bluntly rejected President Barack Obama’s vision for the borders of a future Palestinian state, opening up one of the deepest divides in years between Washington and the Jewish state.

In an unusually sharp rebuke to Israel’s closest ally, Netanyahu told Obama his endorsement of a long-standing Palestinian demand to go back to Israel’s 1967 boundaries — meaning big concessions of occupied land — would leave Israel “indefensible.”

The fisticuffs began when Martynyuk refused to allow politician Oleg Lyashko to make a speech that he had not signed up for “in accordance with regulations,” according to the Kyiv Post. Lyashko responded by calling the senior statesman a “Pharisee.”

Hero of the day

Who: Tia Norfleet

What: Did it take until 2011 for a black female to join Nascar? Apparently so, Tia Norfleet, 24, is breaking barriers as she becomes the first black women to kick in the doors of Nascar.

Norfleet is trying to become the first to make it into the NASCAR circuit. It’s a goal she’s been aiming toward for quite some time. She has been successful at drag racing and on the shorter tracks circuit known as the NASCAR late models, where she recorded two top-15 finishes, though she has not yet qualified for the longer distance tracks such as Daytona and Talladega.

Numbers Game

Number: 20 million

Where: United States

Probabaly as it was revealed that the phone company is “systematically overcharging” up to 20 million Americans who use their iPhone or iPad to access data on the go, an investigation has uncovered. The lawsuit alleges the phone giant routinely over charges customers between 7 and 14 percent, and in some cases up to 300 percent.

Inside the Capitol

Where: United States

Who: The GLBT  Community

What Happened: Well it’s about time. For the first time in Gallup’s poll history tracking of the issue of gay marriage, a majority of Americans (53%) believe same-sex marriage should be recognized by the law as valid, with the same rights as traditional marriages. The increase since last year came exclusively among political independents and Democrats. Republicans’ views did not change.
