We talked about her plans for Fashion’s Night Out and NY Fashion Week.
Here’s what she told us!
GlobalGrind: Are you excited about fashion week?
Jaslene: I am very excited. This is my first fashion show for the season so it’s starting off in a good way!
Are there any designers you are looking forward to seeing?
Yeah well, everyone and anyone. I don’t know my agenda yet, but I think anyone in fashion is exciting to watch.
As a woman of color working in fashion, have you faced any obstacles that prevented you as a Puerto Rican woman from getting ahead?
No, I think it has actually opened opportunities! It’s an advantage, I think, because I am Latina. I get the job; there’s not too many of us out there. I actually have the advantage of being Latina and breaking barriers. I’m international and I’m working out there and that’s a great thing. We all represent culture so it’s a beautiful thing that I get to do it.
What about Fashion’s Night Out, do you have any plans? Do you have a plan of attack?
Yes! I attacked every store last year and it was the most fun time I’ve ever had. I got my outfit ready, which is Celestino Couture, one of the outfits from the collection I’ll be wearing. Gucci, Bergdorf’s, I plan to hit up everywhere and see what’s out there. It’s like a big old block party!

For Fashion Week, are you walking in any shows?
Yes, I am walking for a few. I’m here for Origami, and I am walking for a few more.
How was your summer? We know you went out to the Hamptons, you went to Chicago, what else did you do?
I just got back. I came back to NYC in the middle of the summer. I was in Chicago for about a year and ever since I came back, I’ve been working. I just shot the cover of Ocean Drive Puerto Rico on Saturday. I’m doing a starring role on Friday, so I really got my head on. I’m so business, I’m no fun anymore, man! I’m no fun! I can’t even talk fun anymore, my mind is all about business and good things have been coming.
What can you not be without during Fashion Week?
I would say my stilettos. I have to be tall and keep it tall. There are always a lot of models around me and I always feel like the shortest model everywhere I go, so I need my heels.
