Times can be hard when you’re flat-broke and desperate, just ask Thomas Jane, star of HBO’s Hung series. He had just recently taken some heat for an insensitive comment he made while chatting with Vulture about his show.

“I told HBO, the year I end up with a penis in my mouth is the last year of the show,” said Jane.

After upsetting the gay community, during an interview with the L.A. Times, Jane now comes out with some very surprising information about his past.

Said Jane:

“You know, when I was a kid out here in L.A., I was homeless, I didn’t have any money and I was living in my car. I was 18. I wasn’t averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?”

The 42-year-old actor playing a character who prostitutes himself for money is now claiming that he was once a homeless gay hooker, trying to make ends meet. Does anyone see the irony in this?

When asked if he believed the experience had given him any self-knowledge, he replied:

“Yeah, absolutely. It blew the doors off of my conventional upbringing and thinking and opened up possibilities for me that were akin to World War III … I chose to be a heterosexual guy because that’s what my DNA dictates and my nurture dictates that I am.”

Jane later claimed that he did not know whether homosexuality was a choice or not, but leaned more towards the idea that it was a choice. The idea is questionable, but it was nevertheless interesting to get Jane’s perspective on the matter, given his unique past.
