Sherrod Britton, a 29-year-old member of the Blood gang, and Shabaka Addae Guillory, a 20-year-old Crip, have become best friends through the Occupy Atlanta movement, even though both of their gangs have been in an ongoing war for more than 30 years.

STORY: The 411 On Death Row Inmate Troy Davis

It all started when Sherrod was walking down Peachtree Street past the Troy Davis protesters three weeks ago and saw all the tents. He said:

“I wanted to know what was going on, so I stopped by, I haven’t left since. I stayed for the common cause, speaking for the people. I feel strongly that we have the right to jobs, health care, and affordable higher education.”

The same day, Shabaka saw a story on the news about Occupy Atlanta and had to see it for himself. He said:

“I knew this kind of movement was coming I just didn’t know it would come so soon.”

Since the two met they have become the best of friends, their story was told by Occupy Atlanta participant Tim Franzen in a piece he wrote for the American Friends Service Committee.

Read it and see how the Occupy Movement truly is bringing this country together.
