It’s Friday, y’all, so it’s only right that we start the weekend off with some new The Weeknd. Well, maybe not entirely new.
VIDEO: The Weeknd “The Knowing”
Our homies at YouHeardThatNew got their hands on two new, unreleased Weeknd tracks. Apparently, both were recorded in 2009, and both were produced by Kid Classic/The Noise.
Even though both are quite good, they are both missing that dark, spacey edge that The Weeknd’s first two mixtapes — this year’s House of Balloons and Thursday — had.
The first unreleased track is “Superhero.” The lighthearted, synth-heavy track has our boy The Weeknd sounding happier than we have ever heard him before. The track is about saving a chick, or how he puts it, be someone’s “Superhero.”
MUSIC: Drake & The Weeknd “The Ride”
The other track is “Cure.” The song is backed by rising strings (which sound a lot like Destiny Child’s “Survivor”) and has a heartbroken Weeknd needing a remedy for a broken heart.
It’s really interesting to hear these old tracks and to see how far The Weeknd has progressed.
They’re definitely not bad, just a different look from our twisted, drugged out friend.
Give them a listen and let us know what you think.
