H&M has been in hot water for the past few days!

According to East Atlanta-based artist Tori LaConsay, H&M used one of her paintings on some H&M accessories without her consent.

STORY: Versace For H&M

The painting, which she describes as a love letter to her “tight-knit” neighborhood, has been used on bath towels, pillows and doormats by H&M.

The first time LaConsay wrote to H&M, custom service reps replied:

“We employ an independent team of over 100 designers. We can assure you that this design has not been influenced by your work and that no copyright has been infringed.”

After numerous social media comments, media attention and neglect from the customer service reps, H&M has finally released an official statement:

We are very sorry for our customer service team’s reply, it is very unfortunate and we apologize for it. We are in contact with Tori LaConsay and will continue the dialogue with her directly.

Someone may have confessed to copying the artist, because H&M is definitely paying attention!
